Post Santa Margarita in August
Ken,
My club is going up to SM in the middle of August for a two day tourney, and I was wondering if you could give us all some insight into what it's going to be like at that time of year.

Hi Mark,

It is going to be great in August this year. With the lake going over the spillway as I write this all the cover is flooded and the shoreline weeds should be thick by August. This means that early swimbaits cast parallel to the outside weed line should get some really good fish. Then as the sun gets high in the sky the frog bite will be real fun. They won't be just everywhere in the weeds but cover water and when you get one there should be more in that area.

Then there are always deep fish on main lake points that don't get as much pressure as the shallow fish so the jig bite is usually pretty good when you find them. If the jig is slow a drop shot baby brush hog about 3 inches off the bottom should do the trick. Another summertime pattern on Margarita that doesn't get much attention is to take a sinking swimbait and cast it out into deep water, let it sink to the bottom and drag it uphill on points, and always throw a zara spook.

Thanks Ken.

Na, thats the best part of the 2-day club camping trips. You just need to say sober enough to stay out from under the trucks! Dont ask people, it something only Markie could do, hahaha.

About Santa Margarita, I fished a WON Bass team tournament there on April 25th and was it ever slow! We caught 4 keepers and got second place. No one else had more than three fish. Shaun Wilson fished by himself and won with three swimbait fish. I got one on a Frog and had to go to shakin a worm for the next three. Everyone has had a tough go of it this year so I hope this Saturday is better especially since we are having some warm weather without any storms.

Any final thoughts, or words of wisdom?

John,
He's hiding from you!!!
Actually, he emailed me a response, with current info on Margarita, which I forwarded to all of the Club members. He said he was having trouble with the website currently. Class guy.
I understand you're speaking at the Castaic Bass Club meeting next Thurs., the 12th, about Margarita.
Any chance you'd share some of your info here, because I won't able to be at the meeting?

I will be happy to Mark. I will wait until I have the most up to date info I can before I post anything though. And yes Ken is a great guy and class act.

Thanks John.
The tournement is next weekend, the 14th and 15th, but I'm leaving Wed, the 11th, because I drive really slow. That's because I have to stop so often to pee!
Anything you can shoot my way before then will be greatly appreciated.
Mark
